Volvo-Specified Engine Oil
Drain and replace the engine oil using the specification, viscosity, and quantity required for your exact model and engine.
An oil change is the single most routine service your Volvo needs, and it is one of the most consequential. Engine oil degrades over time and with use, losing the viscosity and additive properties that protect internal components from heat and friction. When the service interval passes without a change, engine wear accelerates in ways that are not always immediately visible.
At Volvo Cars Hilton Head, our certified technicians perform every oil change using the oil grade and viscosity Volvo specifies for your exact model and year. We use Volvo Genuine oil filters on every vehicle we service, and the work is performed by the same technicians who handle factory-warranty repairs. Oil and oil filters are maintenance consumables and are excluded from the Lifetime Parts and Labor Warranty.

A Volvo oil change at our service center goes beyond the oil itself. Every service includes:
Drain and replace the engine oil using the specification, viscosity, and quantity required for your exact model and engine.
Install a new Volvo Genuine oil filter engineered for the flow and filtration requirements of your engine.
Inspect and top off applicable fluid levels according to Volvo service procedures.
Check tire condition and adjust tire pressure to the specification listed for your vehicle.
Inspect exterior lighting for correct operation and visible concerns.
Reset the oil-service reminder in the instrument cluster after the service is completed.
The multi-point checks during an oil change also give our technicians a chance to flag anything that may need attention on a future visit. There is no obligation to add services today, and we will not recommend something your Volvo does not actually need.
Volvo specifies exact oil standards, viscosity ratings, fill quantities, and filter types for each model, engine, and model year. Current gasoline and plug-in hybrid Volvo models, including the XC40, XC60, XC90, S60, S90, and V60 Cross Country, generally require Volvo-approved full synthetic engine oil. Plug-in hybrid models such as the XC60 Recharge and XC90 Recharge Plug-In Hybrid still require engine-oil service because they include a gasoline engine.
Fully electric Volvo models, including the EX30, EX40, and EX90, do not have a combustion engine and therefore do not require engine-oil changes. Their factory maintenance focuses on other systems and inspections.
Using an incorrect oil standard, incompatible additive package, incorrect viscosity, or non-approved filter can affect engine performance and longevity. Our technicians reference VIN-specific service documentation before every oil change so the oil type, quantity, and filter are correct for your exact vehicle.
Most current gasoline and plug-in hybrid Volvo models follow an oil and filter service interval of 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. Your vehicle's service reminder provides an additional prompt based on its programmed maintenance schedule. Driving conditions such as frequent short trips, stop-and-go traffic, extended idling, or severe operating conditions may justify earlier inspection or service.
When the oil-service reminder appears in your instrument cluster, schedule the service promptly. If you are unsure where your vehicle stands before the reminder appears, our team can review its service history and advise you based on mileage, elapsed time, model year, and engine configuration.
