Technology and Safety
Both vehicles offer a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and over-the-air software updates. The EX30 goes further by running Google Built-In natively, meaning Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play Store operate through the car's own embedded system rather than relying on a mirrored phone connection.
The EX30's standard safety content is extensive. Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Information System, Intersection Autobrake, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, Front Cross Traffic Alert, Door Opening Alert for cyclists, Driver Alert System, Hill Descent Control, and Park Assist with front and rear sensors all come standard. Pilot Assist (combined lane centering and adaptive cruise) is included on Plus and Ultra trims.
The Kona also includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind-Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane-Centering Steering, and Forward Collision Warning with Automatic Emergency Braking as standard features. The Kona adds Automatic High Beams and a Driver-Attention Monitor at the standard level. A surround-view camera system and blind-spot cameras arrive on the Limited trim.
Neither vehicle is lacking in safety technology, both rank well above the segment floor. The EX30's Door Opening Alert (which warns drivers if a cyclist is approaching before the door opens) is a genuine urban-use differentiator.
